This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Lead SA Hero of the Year Award to Buyiswa Ponti of the Redhill Literacy and Food Project. Founded by Buyiswa in 2010, a Scarborough resident, Stuart Wright, nominated Buyiswa for the award in 2014 and she won! Increasing costs and more mouths to feed have meant that more innovative and effective funding mechanisms need to be activated. We are grateful to the Village Hub, to Camel Rock Restaurant and to Sunshine Café in Scarborough, to our monthly donor club, to our volunteers, near and far. You are all so appreciated but truth be told, "the wolf is at the door".
We need new fund-raising ideas, out of the box thinking, a regular income stream (the monthly donors' club has lots of vacancies!). Those of you with overseas friends and families, it's time to activate some huge buying power thanks to the exchange rates.

Important Water Quality Report
A task team within the SVA (TT water quality) that is looking at water quality issues in the Village and surrounds has sourced City of Cape Town water chemistry data for two sites in Scarborough – lower Schusters River and the “Pound Canal”. We have managed to do some very preliminary, coarse analysis of the results, and present you with some trends and thoughts. We will endeavour to keep updating the information we provide, and inform the village of any important water quality issues.
Our resident Scarborough tortoise, Pat, succumbed in the December 2023 fire. Pat was older than our grannies. Walking these grounds for more than one hundred years, Scarborough was Pat's domain. Scarborough weeps for all the wildlife that did not survive this tragedy.
We are so proud of our own Scarborite sculptor, Tania Lee (on the right). Read the article in news24 here: https://www.news24.com/news24/southafrica/news/pics-joyful-and-welcoming-how-two-cape-town-artists-captured-the-likeness-of-desmond-tutu-in-bronze-20230325

OUR CHARITY IS DESPERATELY SEEKING A COUPLE OF HELPERS!!
There are many very kind people in Scarborough that have great humanistic principles towards their neighbours, including our neighbours in Redhill. Our charity, based in Scarborough, is a great cause and makes a difference in Redhill and provides food for hungry kids and families who live in dire poverty.
• On the food side of our charity we distribute porridge to Redhill kids. We also distribute soup and bread, that are donated to us by My Father’s House in Simonstown, to Redhill families. We have some helpers that get the food to the distributors and hence to the kids and families. What we need is someone who has a couple of hours spare each week to oversee the distribution processes and to address some of the occasional challenges.
• We are extremely keen to hold a xmas party for the Redhill kids, where we distribute some food and a gift pack, which would contain essential personal healthcare products (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, etc). To do this we need someone who has spare some time to gather sponsors and donations and organise the gathering in December.
Both these roles are not onerous and you will join a great bunch of people doing good things. What could be better than making a difference in kids' lives by helping to feed hungry people and to arrange a party.
If you would like to join our merry band please send us an email to the address below, and if you would like to know more and think you, or someone you know, can make a difference to children's lives please contact us.
