Scarborough beach is idyllic, BUT the ocean needs to be treated with the utmost respect. There are two strong side- and back washes; one on each side of the southern (main) beach. If you do get caught up in one, do not try and fight it. Stay calm and swim sideways to the flow. It will eventually spit you out.
You can then make your way back to the beach, or signal for assistance by raising your right-hand up in the air.
Someone should see this and call for help or get one of the surfers to assist. Remember – REMAIN CALM AT ALL TIMES.
